She was rolling along.

And then, Mundelein’s Brienne Minor went up against Mehvish Safdar.

In a classic battle, Safdar of Mason, Ohio squeezed out a 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(4) victory over Minor in the quarterfinal round of the Girls’ 16 singles at the USTA Midwest Junior Outdoor Championships in Indianapolis (June 23-28).

Minor, who attends Carmel Catholic, won her first four matches. She went 1-1 in the consolation bracket.

Minor entered the tournament after taking runner-up honors in the Chicago District Championships earlier this summer.
