Lake Forest was well-represented in the 43rd Illinois State Junior Amateur Championship, with three golfers finishing among the top 18.
The tournament, held at Makray Memorial Golf Club, in Barrington, began Tuesday and concluded today.
Joe Willis was the best of the trio, placing second with a 4-over-par 217 — seven strokes behind champion Raymond Knoll of Naperville. Willis opened with a round of 74, and posted the same score a day later in Round 2. He finished strong, shooting a 2-under 69 in Round 3, including five birdies.
Ian Mankoff was close behind, finishing fourth with a 7-over 220. He opened with a 74, shot 75 in Round 2, and closed out with an even-par 71. Mankoff’s final round featured five birdies, and an eagle on the par-5 15th hole.
Nicholas Geissler was next among the LF trio, finishing in a tie for 18th at 233. He opened with a 77, posted a 79 in Round 2, and closed with a 77 — including a pair of birdies.
Finishing just one stroke behind Geissler was Mundelein’s Jackson Wietecha, whose 234 was good for 21st place. Wietecha (75-78-81) counted one birdie in the third round.
Grant Heelan, also of Mundelein, tied for 26th place with a three-day total of 237. Heelan was consistent, firing 79 in each of the three rounds. His final round included three birdies.
