Two of the stalwart defenders on the Libertyville High School football team will sign national letters of intent.
All-conference defensive end Luke Mathewson will continue his football with Division I North Dakota.
Michael Parker, who also lined up at defensive end and earned all-conference honors, will be playing Division II football at Grand Valley State University.
Both schools have strong football programs. North Dakota, which is switching to the Big Sky Conference, finished 8-3 and were co-champs in the Great West Conference. Grand Valley also ended up with an 8-3 record.
Mathewson (6-foot-4, 230 pounds), who starts on the Wildcats basketball team, finished the season with 43 tackles. He also was credited with 10 QB hurries, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and four recovered fumbles.
Parker also had an extremely productive season for the 5-5 Wildcats, who earned a berth into the state playoffs. The 6-3, 215-pounder led his team with eight quarterback sacks to go along with 53 tackles, six QB hurries and four TFLs.
Randy Kuceyeski, who has stepped down as the Libertyville’s head coach, also announced that offensive lineman Dillon Sandberg will play at Robert Morris University, while wide receiver Sam Styler will take his game to Illinois Wesleyan. Styler caught 15 passes for 175 yards.
