Soccer is her main game, but Sarah McHugh also knows how to score (field) goals on hardwood.
The 5-foot-11 forward averages nine points and eight rebounds for the 14-10 Corsairs. She netted nine points in Saturday’s 64-43 win at North Chicago.
For her efforts, McHugh has been named the McDonald’s/Pioneer Press Senior Athlete of the Month at Carmel Catholic.
“So athletic, so quick, and she never hesitates to dive on the floor for a loose ball,” said Carmel hoops coach Kelly Perz. “It’s nice having a player, with her height, do a lot of dirty work in games.”
Also nice: her impact between games. Younger teammates look up to her; she helps them develop their games. Gladly.
“Sarah,” Perz added, “is a wonderful teammate and such a hard-working player, with good values. Self-motivated, too.”
McHugh, who also played volleyball at the school, plans to suit up for soccer at Northern Iowa, either as a defender or center-mid, with an intent to major in health promotion.
