Three seats are up for grabs in the April 9 election for Diamond Lake School District 76 board, and voters will be presented with four possible contenders to fill them. Incumbents Keith Loeffler, Beverly Seaver and Laura Vogt are running to keep their spots, while the newcomer is Long Grove resident Adam Plummer. Plummer has never run for elected office. He believes the current board done a good job and simply wants to contribute. MUNDELEIN – The village will have a new president in 2013. As the Dec. 26 deadline passed, Village President Kenneth Kessler did not file petitions for a third term. Current, one-term Village Trustee Steve Lentz has filed for the office, along with Trustee Robin Meier and Wally Frasier. Meier was appointed to the Village Board in 2009 and won a seat in 2011. Lentz, on the other hand, is at the end of his trustee term and would be off the board if his village president campaign was unsuccessful. If money “buys” a vote for a candidate, then ultimately the tens of millions of dollars poured into Illinois congressional races failed to pay off. Outside groups plowed $43 million into the top six U.S. House races in the Land of Lincoln on top of individual campaign spending. However, in the three top Chicago-area congressional races, those who spent the most money — or had the most spent on their behalf — lost. ]]> Thu, 06 Dec 2012 15:56:24 -0500 http://mundelein.suntimes.com/news/elections/16243975-505/how-much-did-it-cost-tea-party-goper-joe-walsh-to-lose-about-70-a.html http://mundelein.suntimes.com/news/elections/16243975-505/how-much-did-it-cost-tea-party-goper-joe-walsh-to-lose-about-70-a.html <![CDATA[ Democrat Brad Schneider ready to ‘roll up my sleeves’ after winning GOP House seat ]]>

Who is the Democrat who unseated the Republicans from their 10th Congressional District stronghold of some 30 years? “I’m not different from most of the people in this district,” says Brad Schneider, the 51-year-old businessman from Deerfield who bested freshman U.S. Rep. In an upset, Democrat Brad Schneider narrowly slipped past U.S. Rep Bob Dold Tuesday, ousting the freshman congressman and giving the 10th District its first Democrat in decades. Dold conceded just before 11 p.m. He lost by barely 2,400 votes out of more than 200,000 cast. Dold, a moderate, was remapped into a Democratic-leaning, north suburban district. At one point Tuesday, he appeared to be heading toward re-election. But as votes from the Lake County portion of the district came in, Schneider narrowly surged past him. A steady and significant number of voters have turned out to polling places in Cook County, but rain this afternoon and evening could hurt voter turnout. Very few voters waited in line Tuesday but crowds were steady until after 9 a.m. when it began to taper off, according to Cook County Clerk David Orr, who was visiting polling places in the far west suburbs when reached on his cell phone. Michael Carbone is running for Lake County Board on a promise to lower property taxes, create jobs and keep the workings of government transparent. But it’s Carbone’s own past that is murky. Under that name, he racked up criminal arrests and charges that include driving on a suspended license, criminal trespass to property, assault and two DUI charges.
