St. Mary of the Lake to host leadership course The University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein hosts its annual Christopher Leadership Weekend Course for adults from March 9 to 11. Community members can join seminarians in a leadership-training program conducted in the framework of the Gospel message. Associate Dean of Formation at Mundelein and a former Christopher course graduate, Rev. Police set to host self-defense class The Mundelein Police Department is hosting a free class for women 18 and over who are interested in learning self-defense tactics. Seventeen year olds with parental permission will also be allowed to attend. The class will be held on Tuesday nights between 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Feb. 21 and ending March 13 at the Mundelein Police Department, 221 North Lake St. Students should wear loose fitting workout clothes. Mundelein firefighters to receive pay raises

After a period of austerity measures and budget cutting, Mundelein firefighters will receive pay hikes for the first time in two years. The Mundelein Village Board approved a 2-percent cost-of-living pay hikes for the village’s unionized firefighters/paramedics at the Jan. 23 board meeting. Firefighters will also be eligible for additional raises based upon longevity. Village Administrator John Lobaito said the pay raises for firefighters are in line with those which were rewarded to non-unionized village employees last August and are retroactive to the start of the village’s budget year on May 1, 2011.
