My next door neighbor and friend, Chris Kennedy is running for Lake County State’s Attorney. I have known him and his family for seven years and I want to share why he is the best candidate for the position.
I am a criminal defense attorney who has practiced for about 24 years so I know something about what is needed in a State’s Attorney’s office. We have an opportunity to make real change in the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office by electing someone who believes in a fair judicial system based on real evidence, not on harassing an accused until they confess to a crime they did not commit.
Furthermore, the Lake County State’s Attorney needs to be able to navigate the thorny road of dealing with our Illinois legislators to pass sane legislation to protect our community. Chris Kennedy has proven record of reform and leadership having led the passage of numerous laws to protect individuals with autism and other disabilities. Chris Kennedy can write a law and get it enacted - invaluable experience for this office.
Likewise, the Lake County State’s Attorney needs to be well versed in both civil and criminal matters as the office is responsible for representing citizens in a variety of different situations. Chris has 17 years of legal experience handling both civil and criminal cases.
In addition, the Lake County State’s Attorney is responsible for a complicated budget that covers hundreds of employees and services. Chris Kennedy is ideally suited for this task as he is a current member of the Libertyville District 70 school board and has been a member for several years. He is then very familiar with the intricacies of creating a sound budget and getting it passed.
I know Chris and I can tell you and have told you why there is no one better qualified to be the Lake County State’s Attorney.
