Hawthorn budget approved
At the Sept. 10 meeting, the Hawthorn Board of Education approved the 2012-13 budget. Budget expenditures total $53,596,693 for the year. More information about district finances is posted at www.hawthorn73.org/finance.
Attendance shows growth
The student population at Hawthorn District 73 continues to grow. This year’s sixth-day report puts student enrollment at 3,986, nine more students than the start of school last year, and 84 more than the year before. Sixth-day numbers are available at www.hawthorn73.org/forms.
Parental portal online
Parents of Hawthorn middle schoolers now can access the PowerSchool Parent Portal, an online sit that allows parents to check student grades and attendance. Access IDs and passwords were provided at curriculum night Sept. 19, and mailed to parents who did not attend.
After-school activity bus
Hawthorn Middle North and Hawthorn Middle South will provide an after-school activity bus for students who participate in an athletic activity or club. Space is limited, and service is available only for students who qualify for and use regular school-year transportation.
Board candidate petitions
The Hawthorn Board of Education will have three positions on the April 9 General Election ballot.
People interested in becoming candidates may pick up nomination packets from the district office or download forms from the Illinois State Board of Elections (www.elections.il.gov). Currently, the first day to file completed papers is Dec. 17 with a filing deadline of Dec. 24. Candidates should be aware that there is a possibility that the legislature may change the filing window. A candidate must be at least 18, have lived in the district for at least a year, and be a registered voter.
