PTO gives $73,000 to schools
Thank you to the leaders, volunteers and supporters of the Hawthorn Parent Teacher Organization who have raised more than $73,000 for our students and schools.
These funds will support next year’s efforts as they are allocated evenly across the district on a per-student basis. Thank you to everyone who gives of their time and resources to support PTO efforts. That support goes right back to the students in a very important way. Thank you!
Students sing in Flash Mob
Hawthorn Elementary South students teamed up with motivational expert and longtime friend of Hawthorn, Victor Pacini, to create a fantastic flash mob. The students sang and danced to an original song, sharing a message of positivity and possibility. You can watch the video at http://youtu.be/6NN1iSbJLSM.

No registration – no schedule
Hawthorn families should have already completed registration for the 2012-13 school year. Registration must be complete in order to receive next year’s class schedule. Students entering grades three and six are required to prove residency. Fee payments and health forms are required before school begins in the fall. Students not registered by July 1 will be dropped from enrollment. Re-enrollment will require an in-person visit to District Office to complete a longer student enrollment process, with placement based on space availability. For more information, please visit www.hawthorn73.org/registration or call the District Office at (847) 990-4200.
Summer reading assignments available
Students who will attend Hawthorn middle schools next year (future sxth, seventh and eighth graders) have a reading assignment to complete during the summer. Students are required to read one book from the provided list and complete a short assignment, which is due by Sept. 7, 2012. Because reading is such a powerful way for children to stay sharp during the summer, our library media specialists have also put together some book suggestions for students at all grade levels. Check for the lists at www.hawthorn73.org.
Hawthorn Calendar
The first day of school in the fall will be Aug. 27. This will be a full day for all students, as the state no longer allows credit for shortened days.
The full 2012-13 calendar will be posted shortly at www.hawthorn73.org as well as online at calendars.hawthorn73.org.
