Gizmo ‘has it all’

Gizmo is an adorable little guy with a huge personality. He’s probably a doxie mix because his face is all cute dachshund, but he boasts a “normally” proportioned body. The most adorable thing about him (except for his personality) is the fact that one of his huge ears stands straight up and the other flops down. That’s why his foster parents named him Gizmo.
Personality? Gizmo has it all. He’s a happy dog who wants to please. He loves to cuddle, he gives kisses, he learns super fast, he’s housebroken, he loves to go on walks; he’s truly affectionate.
His tail is constantly wagging and he learned in just a few days which door to wait at so his foster parents would know he has to go out. He’s also very quick to understand “no” when he’s being mischievous, just as he understands a treat when he behaves. (And he much prefers the treat!)
Besides being adorable and having a perfect personality, what else is important about Gizmo? He’s in the final stages of recovering from heartworm treatment. That means that in another week, he can start going on slightly longer walks and build up to really long walks in a month or so.
He does like to run, and sometimes he likes to try to run out the door, so he would be best in a house where the kids are old enough to be careful about not letting him out. He loves everyone: kids, adults, other dogs and cats. He is learning to chase the cat in his foster home, though, so a cat who would stand up to him might be best.
Gizmo was one of five dogs rescued from a high-kill shelter by Aid to Animals. He was one of two that tested positive for heartworm and was treated. Without treatment, he would have died.
Gizmo is up-to-date on all vaccinations including rabies, he is on a heartworm preventative, and he has been completely treated for heartworms. His adoption fee of $300 will help pay for his vet costs and help Aid to Animals rescue more dogs in high-kill shelters.
Also, please consider donating money to help another Missouri dog, Gunther, get his much-needed surgery. This handsome and very friendly Golden mix needs surgery so that he can walk without pain. His surgery will be over $1,000.
