Library foundation to host spring gala

The Fremont Public Library District Foundation will hold a Spring Gala fundraiser on Saturday, April 30, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the library's building. Festivities will be held at the Hawthorn Woods Country Club beginning at 6 p.m.

The evening will feature live and silent auctions on a wide variety of goods and services donated by local merchants and individuals. Items up for bid will be listed on a display panel at the library prior to the gala. The Honorary Chairman for the Spring Gala is Mundelein Police Chief Ray Rose.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will supplement the library's capital improvement fund. Tickets are $75 each, or $700 for a table of 10, and include hors d'oeuvres, dinner, cash bar and musical entertainment by Brian Leary. Tickets may be purchased at the library by check or calling (847) 918-3243. Seating is limited to 200.

The foundation was formed in 2006 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of raising money to support the library. All donations are tax deductible. Vernon Hills park seeks donations

Residents can honor a special person or commemorate a birthday or anniversary by donating a tree or a bench in a district park.

Trees are sold at cost with prices ranging from $225-$475 depending on the type of species selected which include shade trees and evergreens. Trees can be personalized with a bronze plaque, which is also sold at cost.

Those who like to walk in the parks may prefer to make a bench donation. Benches may be purchased for donation at a cost of $700 and personalized with a bronze plaque similar to the tree donation plaques. Prices for plaques start at $70.

The Tree & Bench Donation order form can be found online at www.vhparkdistrict.org or at the Park District Community Centers. For more information, call Cheryl Baron at (847) 996-6933. Boat launch permits available

Boat launch permits for Mundelein's Diamond Lake are now available through the Mundelein Park District.

The nontransferable permit allows registered Illinois boat and personal watercraft owners to launch from the Mundelein Park District's convenient dock/lake access and keyed parking area located along the waterfront on Diamond Lake Road. The launch is open seasonally through fall, from dawn to dusk. Fees are based on the type of watercraft and owner's residency location. Proper identification including a valid IDNR boat registration card and tow vehicle license plate number are required. A limited number of permits are issued each season.

Permit purchases can be made weekdays at the park district's Mundelein Community Center, 1401 N. Midlothian Road. For more information about boat launch permits, call (847) 566-0650, ext. 10, or visit www.mundeleinparks.org.
