Jewel-Osco announces last Hostess baked goods shipment hits shelves Tuesday

Jewel-Osco says the final shipment of Hostess Brands baked goods, including Twinkies, will be delivered and sold at Chicago area Jewel stores Tuesday.
About 20,000 boxes of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and other Hostess products will be placed on store shelves at different times of day at different stores. Jewel lists the store locations and estimated times of delivery on Facebook, facebook.com/JewelOsco.
The treats will be sold to customers at the regular price, and there will be no purchase restrictions, a Jewel spokesperson said Monday.
Hostess Brands, which was reorganizing in bankruptcy, shut down operations Nov. 16 after the company said a strike by bakers crippled its business to the point it had to liquidate. It sought court approval to close and sell off all of its assets.
Hundreds of potential buyers, including at least five major retailers, have expressed interest in Hostess’ brands, recipes and some of its factories.
The company shuttered its 36 plants nationwide, including Twinkies’ birthplace plant in Schiller Park where 297 workers baked Twinkies, CupCakes, Ho Hos and Honey Buns, and a bakery in Hodgkins where 325 workers baked Beefsteak, Butternut, Home Pride, Nature’s Pride and Wonder breads.
The Twinkie was created by the Schiller Park bakery manager in 1930.
