Mundelein Orchesis, Jazz performances set
MUNDELEIN — The Mundelein High School Orchesis Club and Jazz Bands will perform in public events next week.
The first Orchesis show of the year will be 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, in the Mundelein High School Auditorium, 1350 W. Hawley St.
Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for seniors and students with IDs. The show will feature dances from the Orchesis Dance Club, MHS Dance Class students, MHS Dance Team and routines performed by youth from the Mundelein community.
A Youth Dance Clinic takes place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14. Cost of the clinic is $15 and will include a T-shirt and admission to the show. The students will perform their dance during the Orchesis Show Oct. 15.
The Fall Jazz Concert takes place 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the MHS Auditorium. Admission is free. The MHS Jazz groups, including the Jazz Lab Band and Jazz Ensemble, will perform after an opening performance by the Fremont Eighth Grade Jazz Band. Keith Pitner directs the jazz groups.
Dave Schiff, a professional saxophonist, will be the guest artist at the show. He will work with the Fremont and MHS jazz bands in their rehearsals the day before the concert. Schiff is a virtuoso jazz tenor sax player who delivers funk, straight ahead, smooth jazz and big band styles, MHS officials said in a press release.
His expertise on all woodwinds has given him the opportunity to back acts all over the country, including performers such as Barry Manilow, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra Jr., Natalie Cole and more. When not on tour, he usually is in theaters in the Philadelphia area playing Broadway shows, the release said.
Schiff is a 20-year veteran of the Navy Band Jazz Ensemble “The Commodores.” Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to study under jazz greats such as Pepper Adams, Don Menza, Boysie Lowrey, and Sir Roland Hannah.
