News Briefs: Mundelein Police to host National Night Out

Mundelein Police to host National Night Out Aug. 7
The Mundelein Police Department will join thousands of communities nationwide for the 29th Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event.
The Mundelein event starts at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7 in the Santa Maria del Popolo parking lot at the corner of Seymour Avenue and Courtland Street.
National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Village of Mundelein.
Mundelein Target is again assisting the Village with this event. Ronald McDonald will also join Mundelein Police and residents in Mundelein’s Night Out Against Crime. Fun activities are planned for kids such as an obstacle course slide, mini slide, face painter, clown, D.J. and music. There will also be cotton candy and popcorn. A flashlight walk will be held at dusk.

‘Bubblemania’ to be held at Cook Library Aug. 6
“Bubblemania” will be held at 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 6 at the Cook Park Library, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. Children grades 4–6 can step inside a bubble, paint with bubbles, make a crystal bubble, among other hands-on activities.

Liberty Town Productions to host summer showcase
Liberty Town Productions, Libertyville’s not-for-profit entertainment company, hosts its fourth annual Musical Summer Showcase featuring the Best of Broadway on Saturday, July 28 in The Fuel Room of Austin’s Saloon & Eatery in Libertyville. Show times are 6 and 8:30 p.m.
The showcase, performed in a cabaret-style setting, centers on the theme, “Broadway: A to Z,” (Aida to Zanna Don’t). Everything in between includes instant classics from “Wicked” and “Newsies”, along with showstoppers from standards like “Grease” and “My Fair Lady”. The cast features local performers, many of whom are either studying for professional music careers or are already performing with professional organizations and troupes. The showcase is directed by Grayslake’s Dustin Helvie and Waukegan’s Colin Douglas with choreography by Chicago’s Sarah Garvey.
Tickets for either of the two performances (6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.) are $20 ($10 for students) online in advance at www.libertownproductions.com. If available, tickets will be sold at the door. Seating is general admission with doors opening 30 minutes prior to showtime. Austin’s Fuel Room is located at 481 Peterson Road, Libertyville.
MHS welcomes 15 new staff for new school year
When the bell rings on the opening day of the new school year, 15 new staff members will appear in the hallways of Mundelein High School.
Joining the staff this year are the following: Alicia Brant, Special Education Department Chair; Christina De Vitto, Wellness; Lauryn Funteas, Science; Autumn Graef, ELL/Bilingual; Krysta Hamlin, School Psychologist; Jacqueline Hogan, Science; Officer Brian Kisselberg, Police Liaison; Amanda Krich, Literacy Coach; Mark Landuyt, English; Breanna Long, English; Candace McGuffey, World Languages/Mandarin; Keith Pitner, Instrumental Music; Rebecca Reed, Art; Barb Tegtmeier, Media Center; and Blair Winter, World Languages/Spanish. In addition, Matt Farmer will move from instrumental music to teaching physics.
