NEWS BRIEFS

Water skiers to
perform at
Mundelein picnic

Championship water skiers forming on-water pyramids will be just one of the many events at Mundelein Park and Recreation District’s Community Picnic. The free event is being held Saturday, July 21, at Diamond Lake Beach, 1016 Diamond Lake Road.

The hometown get-together runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., beginning with free admission to the Diamond Lake Beach. The picnic will include kids’ crafts, free lemonade and pedal boats for excursions on the lake.

After 6 p.m. when swimming and boating activities close, visitors can turn their attention toward the lake where members of the Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team will perform. A special show featuring tricks, high-flying freestyle jumps, fast-paced barefoot skiing and those famous pyramids, will take place. Visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Diamond Lake Beach is located in Mundelein on Diamond Lake Road, between IL Route 60/83 and Route 45/Lake Street. Free parking is available across from the beach. For more information, call (847) 566-0650 or visit www.mundeleinparks.org.

Condell to offer health tips at
Farmers Market

Advocate Condell Medical Center will offer information on cancer care, prevention and treatment at the Mundelein Farmers Market.

On July 20, Advocate Condell will focus on cancer-fighting foods. According to the American Cancer Society, research shows that poor diet and not being active are two key factors that can increase cancer risk.

More information about the link between cancer and diet and wellness will be available at Condell’s booth at the Farmers Market. Members of the hospital’s wellness staff also will be on hand with information on weight management and calculating Body Mass Index, a key measure of healthy weight.

Advocate Condell Medical Center is the exclusive Sprout Sponsor of the Mundelein Farmers Market, which runs June through October every Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. in downtown Mundelein, one block south of Route 176 and one block east of Route 45. Advocate Condell will have a booth at the market once a month, with different cancer awareness themes.
