Joan Carl, owner and vice chairman of D. Porthault, was a special guest at a preview party at Maze Home, 735 Elm Street, Winnetka on Monday, May 7. There was also a trunk show of D. Porthault on May 8 and 9 hosted by Maze owner, Cindy Galvin with Mrs. Carl in attendance.

Rare pieces from the company’s Paris archives were on display, as well as hard-to-find pieces from the current collection. D. Porthault, known for its use of color and hand embroidery, is beloved by design icons current and past – among them Jacqueline Onassis, Audrey Hepburn, Tory Burch and members of the British royalty. The company’s famous Coeurs (hearts) pattern was commissioned by Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor.

Mrs. Carl and her husband, Bernard, acquired D. Porthault in 2005. In 2009, Mrs. Carl was awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur – one of the highest honors awarded by the French government – for her work reviving the iconic Parisian brand and the rehabilitation of the couple’s chateau in the Loire Valley. The couple also has homes in England and the United States.

Said Cindy Galvin, “My store is privileged to carry a line as prestigious as D. Porthault and we are more than pleased to introduce its owner to the community.”

Some of the guests at the Preview Party were Connie Coolidge and Diana Hall of Kenilworth, Jennifer Martay of Winnetka and Amy Courage of Wilmette.

Maze Home carries the largest selection of D. Porthault bed linens, terry and accessories in the Midwest. The May event is the latest in Maze Home’s series of trunk shows highlighting exciting local and national artists who bring the best in style and interior design to Winnetka.

Maze Home Store (mazehome.com) offers a carefully curated selection of home furnishings, decorative accessories and hostess gifts from the U.S., Paris and markets across the globe, as well as featuring D. Porthault linens and Astier de Villatte ceramics. Further, the store houses Bardes Interiors (bardesinteriors.com), store owner Cindy Galvin’s design firm. Her work can be seen in venues stretching from Manhattan and Rhode Island to Chicago, Vail and San Francisco.
