Auto Show: New models, new technology, shiny fun for everyone
The Chicago Auto Show will open to the public Feb. 9 and run through Feb. 17 at McCormick Place.

The Chicago Auto Show will open to the public Saturday, Feb. 9, and will run through Feb. 17 at McCormick Place.
Chicago pulls people and cars together like nowhere else, and manufacturers pay close attention to visitors’ reactions to their vehicles. Under one roof, in two cavernous halls, auto show visitors will experience multiple international and North American production and concept vehicle introductions; an array of domestic and imported luxury cars; futuristic concepts; conversion vans; commuter cars, trucks/SUVs, hybrids, EVs; and high-horsepower performance cars.
In addition to the new vehicles on display, show patrons also will find auto-related exhibits; race cars; antique and collector cars; and numerous aftermarket/accessory vendors. You can even renew your driver’s license while at the show.
In previous years, manufacturers saved their truck/SUV introductions for Chicago, and this year several manufacturers will be introducing or highlighting new truck/SUV entries.
Kia will present a new CUV and Ford will bring its Atlas concept truck, which previews the refresh of the F-150. Chevrolet and GMC just introduced the Silverado/Sierra pickup truck twins, and will have numerous examples on display. Additionally, Chevrolet and Toyota will have world debuts of a new and existing vehicle.
A growing number of vehicles at this year’s show will spotlight the latest transformative technology including advanced applications that reduce distracted driving through hands-free voice commands and vehicle controls, as well as the latest in collision avoidance and passenger safety. Additional technology in the form of infotainment and connectivity systems prominently will be showcased.
Visitors looking for advancements in fuel efficiency, especially hybrid, EV and diesel technology, will find a larger number of these types of vehicles on display this year. The auto show is the best place to compare mileage estimates along with pricing, features and vehicle comfort without pressure to buy.
If you want to experience one of the vehicles on display, there are several indoor test rides including Camp Jeep, and a Chrysler/Dodge/Fiat track along with Toyota’s “Let’s Go For a Ride” indoor experience. If you want to get behind the wheel and drive, Cadillac, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan and Subaru offer outdoor test drives on surface streets.
Even if you’re not in the market for a new vehicle you can still check out the glittering sheet metal, latest advances in fuel economy, technology enhancements, muscular engines, and luxurious interiors on display. The event has something for everyone.
